Classic Bedding

Some things are timeless classics, like colonial and country bedding. Perhaps we all hark back to a simpler time when a fresh-baked apple pie sat cooling on the kitchen table, clean white sheets dried on the clothesline and a cheery four-poster bed covered with a matelasse bedspread beckoned for an afternoon nap. While times have changed it’s still possible to capture the simplicity of another era when you decorate a bedroom in the country style.

A 100% cotton quilt is the foundation for country bedding and the Marina quilt captures all that is country. The traditional embroidery on this blue and white quilt and matching pillow shams is beautiful, elegant and timeless in style. The Laura Ashley Sophia comforter set is a great example of a comforter which also captures the country style. The crisp white comforter features a romantic blue floral pattern with a refreshing spring look designed to give your bedroom a light, airy feel like a breath of fresh county air. Blue and white may be the most popular colors for decorating a country bedroom but there are hundreds of colorful country bedding options available when you browse and shop online at the major bed and bath stores so you need not feel limited in your selection.

Another more traditional country bedding style is matelasse – this tufted or quilt-like fabric has a long history and was first crafted in the French countryside; modern manufacturing techniques have made matelasse widely available. The Colonial Williamsburg William and Mary matelasse bedspread is directly inspired by an antique coverlet found in the textile collection and worthy of the most refined country manor or traditional home.
